GPs - Out of hours services

Out of hours services are the urgent health services you might need to contact when your GP surgery is closed in the evening, at night and at weekends (including Saturday mornings) and the problem is not an emergency. 

Out of hours times are:
Monday to Thursday 6pm to 8am the next morning.
Weekends; Friday 6pm to 8am to Monday morning.
Bank Holidays; 6pm the evening of the last working day before the Bank Holiday until 8am the next working day after the Bank Holiday.

For an urgent appointment at an out of hours clinic, before your own doctors surgery reopens, or to ask for a home visit - ring (new lo-call no.)

Your call will be answered by a qualified health care professional who will ask some questions to make sure that you get appropriate advice. You may be offered a telephone consultation with a doctor, an appointment at an out of hours clinic if you need to be seen in person, or a home visit by a doctor out of hours. 

Out of hours clinics are only available by appointment.

Getting to the clinic: If you are offered an appointment at an out of hours clinic and you have transport needs you should tell the person making the appointment so that transport to the clinic can be arranged as appropriate.

For emergency treatment (for example; serious accident, suspected heart attack or stroke, more than minor burns, meningitis) you should still contact the emergency services by calling 999 and requesting an ambulance.

You can also get advice if you are unsure whether you need urgent medical care by calling NHS Direct at any time of any day on 08 45 46 47.
